Weblogs 101 with Steven Cohen of Library Stuff .net

Because Steven’s presentation is online, I’m keeping my notes brief. I recommend that you look through his presentation.

As well as giving an overview of blogging and demonstrating how to setup a blog using Blogger and how to post to a Movable Type blog, Steven addressed how Weblogs effect librarians and how blogging can help librarians find a job.

Steven talked about the features on the blogs, like comments, trackback, RSS feeds, and blogrolls.

He introduces a number of useful tools for bloggers and finding blogs, like Feedster, and mentions a number of blogs by and for librarians. One of his blogs, LIS Blogsource features new blogs by librarians. “Library Weblogs are some of the funniest Weblogs,” according to Steven.

Several times during the lecture, Steven polled the audience to gauge the level of knowledge about certain things. Of the roughly 20 people in the room, only 4 raised their hands when he asked who blogs.

Addendum 11/13: Steven blogged about the presentation, too.

[j here: This message seems to be some kind of comment spam. I deleted the many other comments repeating this message. I've left this one as a temporary example because of an e-mail I sent out to a support list Tuesday (6/1/04) morning. It will magically disappear soon.]
