Blogging on Multiple Blogs at One Time

Dave demoed something really nifty at last night’s blog meeting. He’s working on a way to enable someone to post on multiple blogs simultanesouly. I think I was drooling.

Sometimes, when I post things on this blog, I wonder if I should post it on NewsliBlog instead or as well. That feature has a lot of power ’cause I could easily do both. I’m so busy blogging over here that I forget that maybe I should contribute over there. (Gosh, maybe the Special Libraries Association News Division needs to appoint a chief blogger. I hope people aren’t assuming it’s the Webmaster … Somebody please tell me if that’s the case …)

Sometimes I wonder if I should be blogging primarily over there instead of having my own, separate blog. We had a tiny side discussion–sparked by the IRC channel folks–about the point of having multiple blogs. I think Kaye summed it up best with her list: personal, corporate, professional, etc. I have ownership over this blog. When I write on NewsliBlog, I guess I’m “donating” my thoughts to the organization. I also feel like I lose some of my personal identity because I can’t be as free with what I say over there because it’s strictly a blog for an organization and members of that organization, as opposed to being something that’s my own blog, which I mainly use for professional development anyway. A good analogy would be the difference between what I might say during a conversation with a professional colleague who I know fairly well (my tone on my blog, even though I don’t really know most of my readers) and what I type in an e-mail message to a discussion list of hundreds of librarians I don’t know.
