Bed Bed Bed

I want it on the record that I supported the librarian stereotype of someone who buys books by going out tonight and buying myself They Might Be Giants’ Bed Bed Bed. I’m also honoring v’s children’s book theme by blogging about it. For you people who are upset that I bought books because bookstores compete with libraries for customers, don’t worry: I borrowed books from two separate libraries today, too. (And in one of them, someone asked me for assistance out of several people in the corridor. I guess I really do look like a librarian, even in my snow boots and winter coat.) It is usually my practice to borrow books from libraries rather than purchasing them. Buying books has become a rare thing for me.

Je’ will be happy to know that I finished two books this week. I (finally) read to the end of Ernie Pyle’s Brave Men last night. The last chapter is definitely worth a read, especially with current world events. The more of his work I read, the more I realized that his voice is a good model for the voice I want for my blog. It’s been a long time since I’ve read something that I knew I had to have in my meager personal collection, but that and Here Is Your War are now on my hunting list. Brave Men is one of the books I was trying to buy tonight, but the store (which is organized by publisher) didn’t seem to have it.

I finished Cold Mountain on Sunday.

Does that make up for yet another conversation I had about how I’m not the stereotypical “bookworm librarian?” It’s not that I don’t like reading. It’s just that there are so many things I’d usually rather be doing than reading, like hiking or blogging.
