Disclaimer: Not Responsible for Content in My Aggregator
Here I was, all set to direct some of my coworkers to my aggregator to look at how a certain weekly publication renders in an external RSS feed generator and there’s this picture someone else posted on a blog that is too risky for me to share with my coworkers. My goodness! He’s posted, well, risque pictures before and I wondered if I was taking a risk by subscribing to him, but I hadn’t seen anything quite like this from him before and I didn’t really think about the implications of having something like that in my aggregator, especially on a day when I was going to point my coworkers to it.
I’m not offended by the photo. I just really like my job and plan to do what I can to keep it. I don’t blog as part of my job. This isn’t an official work blog. It’s my own personal professional development tool. So I don’t think I’ll be at risk. But, boy what a sticky situation it could be if anyone actually reads my aggregator besides me. (I’m sure a number of his subscribers are getting a nice surprise today. And I’m sure suddenly everyone’s reading my aggregator to see the photo, but I realized that if I unsubscribe to the feed (temporarily), the photo might magically disappear and I can share my aggregator with my coworkers.)
My disclaimer: Though I choose which blogs appear in my aggregator, I am not responsible for the content on those blogs (except the two other blogs I blog on). Since the primary purpose of this blog is professional development for me and other people interested in news librarianship (with some diversions), I tried to select blogs that are relevant to the topic and my readers and some blogs I just like to read. I am sure that there will be material in my aggregator that gets someone flustered at times and there will often be content that isn’t topically related to news librarianship. Please keep that in mind and read my aggregator at your own risk.

I was similarly surprised by that post when I glimpsed it in my aggregator. Fortunately, I noticed that it was not work safe before I scrolled the picture into complete view . . . Somehow, I do not think my co-workers would have been amused.
Sadly, I have had to remove that feed from my aggregator. Although the problem image has since scrolled off my aggregator page, I do not want to risk another incident (or near incident) . . . I was just musing this morning that I have fallen in love with my job; I would hate to lose it because of my aggregator :-).

I just resubscribed to the feed a little while ago. When I first saw the post, it was at the top of my aggregator. Now, it’s about 1/3 of the way down. I don’t think it would have bothered some of my coworkers, but I don’t want to take that chance. (Another reason why having a private office is a good thing.)

I have edited the offending photo. I ws surprised it caused a fuss as
1) it came from a major media outlet (albeit British)
2) It;s purpose was to raise money for a worthy charity, which I linked to
Hope the edited version goes down easier

I, too, got Whoops’d at work. I definitely would have had some explaining to do…
But, Michael, I still love you, man

Oh, Michael, I’m disappointed to read that you edited the photo. (Maybe I’m too liberal when it comes to free speech.)
