Liberation Technology in the Chronicle of Higher Education
The dean of the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, John M. Unsworth, has a piece in this Friday’s Chronicle of Higher Education about the open source, open access, etc., movement at institutions of higher learning. He gives a history of the Internet, talks about initiatives at MIT, and discusses scholarly publishing. He wonders if in the future universities will come down on the side of private industry or the free exchange of ideas.
