Nice Praise for Some Colleagues
Today, I helped credential media arriving on campus for an event. When I meet people who work at organizations some of my news library colleagues work at, I often ask if they know the librarians. It would be inappropriate for me to name names, so I can’t, but when I asked a reporter if he knew two popular news librarians, he replied “They’re the only reason to go to the library!” I jokingly asked if there was really nothing else in the library and he replied that there are a few books and a hand-cranked computer.
It’s nice to hear that kind of enthusiasm about a news organization’s librarians. Sometimes, reporters and photographers say they don’t know who the librarians are when I ask about them. That always makes me sad. Journalists, the secret to doing good research is to know your librarians.
