Political Hits

I check my referer log almost every night to get an idea of who’s coming to my blog through other Web sources. Anytime someone follows a link through a search engine, I get a line in my referer log telling me what the search was. I’ve written about attending campaign events for most of the remaining Democratic presidential candidates. (I’ve seen every one of them except Al Sharpton.) Since it’s primary season and I imagine many people are looking for information about the candidates, I’m a little surprised that I’m not getting more hits from people looking for information about them. What surprises me more is the number of hits for John Edwards’ wife with any combination of quotes and connectors that come to this blog. I can’t figure out why so many people are searching for information about Elizabeth Edwards when so few seem to be coming here looking for information about the candidates. Perhaps it is because my blog is higher in search results for her than it is in search results for any of the candidates, except maybe John Kerry and hockey. (This blog is number six in a Google search for “john edwards” wife . It is not in the top three pages of a Google search for “john edwards.” It’s the seventh hit for “john kerry” hockey in Google.) Hhmm …

[Political disclaimer: I'm not advocating for any candidate. I'm just pointing out what I think is an interesting phenomenon in my referer log.]
