More on Dr. Seuss
I know some of you are sick of me writing about Dr. Seuss (Theodor Geisel) and what would have been his 100th birthday on Tuesday, but there was a really nifty discussion on one of the e-mail lists I’m on that began with a few people writing about Dr. Seuss and then turned into a discussion about international children’s literature. Usually, that list is pretty serious and job-related, but today’s discussion was a nice tangent. Even the people who usually request that tangential discussions get taken off the list didn’t complain. It was a unique opportunity for us to bond with each other by discussing the books we read as children. Now I have the names of some British and New Zealand authors to check out.
Here are some neat things about Dr. Seuss that came from that discussion:
The San Francisco Chronicle published an article beginning with an explanation of the difficulties of writing like Dr. Seuss.
The University of California at San Diego did a show of his political cartoons a few years ago.
One librarian put a Cat-in-the-Hat hat a coworker made on her librarian action figure to mark the special anniversary.
