I’m Not the Only Blogger Losing Blog Posts and Traffic

I learned this afternoon that several others who blog on this server have also had posts magically disappear recently.

One of them also observed a decline in his hits from other people’s aggregators. Another blogger thinks it could be related to the blog server being down and then slow for a long period of time a few weekends ago. He thinks that some aggregators might automatically kick out feeds when they are unable to reach a blog during a certain time period, like 24- to 48-hours. So I’m writing this post to check to see if you are still receiving a feed from my blog. If you don’t receive this post in your aggregator, please check your subscription list.

(That’s kind of a joke, like saying, “If you aren’t here, please raise your hand.”)

(You’re right. It’s not that funny.)

(And I suppose on some level, it really might work because some people who receive(d) my feed occasionally come here. And maybe someone who has noticed my feed is missing will come here to check if I’ve blogged since the last time s/he read me and notice this post.)

My traffic seems back. How about yours?

Funny you should ask ’cause I’m toying with a blog post on this matter. I’ll just write it here instead. I got more hits from a link on someone else’s blog than aggregators on March 17. The aggregator hits are still lower than what they were.

I’ve been getting lots and lots of referer spam, though. Far more than I was getting before. I might have had one or two spam links before the crash. Now I’ve got between ten and fifteen each night. If it’s giving me blog traffic, though, maybe it doesn’t matter? ha ha ha It’s annoying. I wish it wasn’t there.
