Department of the Interior Web Sites Shutdown

One of my news librarian colleagues pointed this Web site shutdown out to me. Talk about disappearing information on the Internet! She’s trying to verify something for a news article and can’t get to the Web site with the information she needs because a federal judge has ordered a number of Department of Interior Web sites to be taken offline because of security problems that have not been fixed.

At first, I thought this was some kind of prank because I don’t remember seeing anything about it yesterday and there doesn’t seem to be much about it out there today, but I have been unable to access Web sites for the Department of the Interior, the Bureau of Land Management, or the US Fish and Wildlife Service. Yesterday’s Washington Post has an article about the ruling.

Addendum 3/18: Missing blog posts is one thing. Misplaced comments is another. In my e-mail and the discussion group on this blog, there’s a comment that’s supposedly for this post. Why it doesn’t show up in the comments box below or linked in the discussion group is beyond me. Stan shares a New York Times article about the situation (and says he just found my blog this week and enjoys reading it). Thanks for sharing, Stan. (Wow! Someone likes my blog!)
