Google Teams with Academics for Scholarly Paper Searching
MacKenzie Smith, associate director of technology for MIT’s libraries, said Google’s scholarly article search could appear as an option on Google in a few months if the pilot test goes well. Sixteen other universities are involved in the project, too. The option limits searching to repositories of scholarly materials (superarchives) on college and university Web sites. The institutions, which use MIT’s DSpace for their superarchives, have tagged the material with metadata to facilitate retrieval in Google’s search engine.
