This holiday for special librarians “… recognizes the unique contributions made by information professionals around the world and the critical role they play in the changing global information community.”
I’m not sure what to make of the holiday having a sponsor, though. I appreciate Factiva’s willingness to support librarianship, but it just makes me wonder which other holidays have corporate sponsors.

I think an ad hoc case can be made for Mother’s Day and HallMark(tm).
Now, if Factiva can be convinced to make a dark chocolate tie-in with ISLD …

Let’s not forget Sweetest Day and Valentine’s Day, too. Halloween may even have a corporate sponsor now. Dare I mention a December holiday or two?
