Doing My Part to Mentor News Librarians

Amy Disch, a blog reader who recently published an essay about recruiting new news librarians, will be happy to know I’ve signed up to mentor newcomers to the Special Libraries Association Annual Conference through the News Division. It’s one small thing I can do to help recruit news librarians and foster the profession. Many conference newcomers seem to be students interested in the field or people new to the profession. My mentee is … well, whad’ya know: it’s Amy Disch. For all I know, we were paired when someone drew names out of a hat.

I don’t know exactly how we were paired, but I’m so glad we were. I’m looking forward to finally having the pleasure of meeting you in person…and I can’t wait to see you donning your beanie cap during the business meeting!

I’ll wear the beanie in the suite, too. Thanks for the reminder to pack it. I’m packing right now …
