Blogger Get Together at the Next SLA Annual Conference?

I think Christina’s idea of getting bloggers together at the next Special Libraries Association Annual Conference is a good idea. How to make it work, as she types, is a challenge because there’s so much else happening. Here are some ideas:

  • have a session on blogging that spans the divisions, caucuses, and various groups and hope bloggers will come (it doesn’t necessarily have to be a “how-to”; what about a free-for-all forum where bloggers can speak at a microphone for a few minutes about their blogging experience and maybe if we have a computer with Internet access, show off their blogs–kinda a 60 blogs in 60 minutes thing)

  • set up a lunch, dinner, or late evening get-together; perhaps we can use a meeting room for this
  • try to do something before the conference, like on Friday night or Saturday afternoon when there isn’t much else happening
  • Toronto is home to the world-famous blogger Accordion Guy. If possible, we should at least let him know about our plans. He has lots of blogging connections in the area. I’d like to see if he’d visit the SLA News Division suite to seranade us for an evening. I wonder if that cute Redhead would just happen to be in Toronto then … video footage (.avi, 10M, film by Shimon Rura)
  • a blogger roundtable
  • a blogger no-host dinner
  • Whatever we try to do, I think it’s a good idea to try to make it inclusive of nonbloggers and blogger wannabes. I got so many questions from people who want to start a blog, but don’t know how. Although I understand the benefits of doing something bloggers-only, I’m not sure we want to discourage these people from participating.

I’m all bummed. Next year’s conference coincides with Harvard’s Commencement again, so if I’m able to go, I’ll only be able to go for the weekend and maybe Monday again.

What about ASIST or other upcoming conferences? I heard something about a blogging panel at the ASIST (American Society for Information Science and Technology) annual meeting in Providence, Rhode Island.

A bloggers and blogger wannabes get-together at Toronto is a great idea Jessica. I’d love to participate. Still incredibly early, but I plan on being at the conference next year. I was exhausted when I got home, but my time there was very informative and fun. Sorry to hear about the commencement conflict, but I am glad to see you posting again and hope you’re feeling better.

    Hey Jessica,

Did you know you’re listed on the KM blogger panel at the ASIST conference in November? Kris L. is moderating it.
