Where Will Feeds be Next Year?

Someone asked me to speculate on what RSS and Atom feeds will be like in a year. The technology as far as feeds themselves go doesn’t seem to be changing dramatically. It seems like a lot of what’s happening are adjustments. How feeds handle HTML code is one example of this. I think what will be different is how Atom and RSS have positioned themselves against each other or perhaps come together. And what people are using feeds for, how feeds are being used could shift. And, of course, there will be better aggregators by then (we hope). There will be much more innovation with feeds in the next year as more people adopt them, learn their value, and apply them to different things. It’s all speculation, though. And I’m certainly no expert. We’ll just have to wait and see.
