::tips cap to the Dowbrigade::

Well, Michael, I am a librarian. Of course, I’m going to be involved in the Internet porn business. Librarians are totally sexy, after all; and, some guys have fetishes for people in my profession, as strange as that may seem. (Please stop staring at my feet, sir.) (ha ha ha)

Yeah, Michael, I don’t know what’s happening with the hits and rankings. I really only wanted spot 13, but I think I stayed there for a day or two before rocketing up into the top ten. (Okay, well, I am number ten, but it still counts.) I’ve even been blogging less to divert more time to a massive Web project, a large chunk of which I finally finished tonight–6 weeks behind schedule–otherwise, I would have picked up two of Michael’s recent posts that I think are worthy of note.

Several bloggers on Harvard’s server have noticed the increase in referer spam and that has definitely boosted my traffic, but that’s not all. I’m not sure where the other numbers are coming from. My referers page has been growing in length. I was Feedster’s Feed of the Day about two weeks ago, which could mean I have some new readers. I also heavily promoted my blog at a conference I was at in June and have noticed some new readers since then. My traffic picked up significantly earlier this summer. I went from having 400-700 hits a day to getting more than 1,000 on average now and some days, like Monday, of almost hitting 5,000. I can blame some of that on spiders because there have been times when many of us get about 1,000 extra hits on the same day.

Because of the blog server’s unwillingness to let me on it, I didn’t get to see what my hit totals for Tuesday the 20th were. Michael’s blog post implies they were pretty high.

I feel like I need to elaborate on something Michael said about my job. “She get[s] PAID to sit around all day and review internet information sources.” Yeah, right, I wish. Tuesday I spent about an hour doing clips. I probably spent an hour or two handling e-mail stuff. Another hour vanished while I worked on some committee business. Running a radio interview ate an hour. I spent about two hours messing with a Web site update. A few people asked me questions and brought people by to meet me, which consumed about another hour. I overslept, so I came in late, and I left early to go to class. Come to think of it, that’s pretty much been my schedule the last few work days (except for the leaving early bit). I most definitely do not get paid to sit around all day and review Internet information sources. You can fabricate all the excuses you want about why my rankings are higher, but that’s not one of them. = )

But, Michael, I don’t think you really have to worry about me. 70,000 hits still separate us on the overall rankings. *IF* I ever catch you, it will take a long, long, long time. And if you keep posting images of topless women, you’ll outrank me forever.

I appreciate all the kind things Michael said about my blog. He’s too sweet!

And some other blogger laughs at me when I talk about stats. It’s nice to see someone else worrying about it for a change.

And, Michael, I know you only looked at my blog ’cause my tagline said something about topless women. = )

A word of caution: I did link to a few of Michael’s posts featuring topless women. If you do not want to look at breasts, use caution when following links to his blog.
