What?!? The Internet Will Take Over Libraries?!?

Near the beginning of the film I, Robot, which takes place a few years from now, one character remarks that the main character would have shut down the Internet had he known it was going to take over libraries. The cry of shock that came out of my mouth must have alerted everyone in the audience that there was a librarian among them. The charming gentlemen on either side of me just looked at me funny and laughed.

I think the movie raised some great issues about artificial intelligence. Perhaps the film will inspire me to read the book at some point during my lifetime.

Addendum 8/4: sj saw I, Robot, too, but it seems like he paid too much attention to Bridget Moynahan to type much about the film.

Yes, I had the same reaction when I saw the movie!

They were possibly shocked at the idea of ending the internet as well as at your reaction.:)

Asimov wrote several robot-based detective stories and I recommend reading The Robots of Dawn and Robots and Empire for material of significance to the plot line of the movie. I, Robot the book and the earlier material in the detective series are useful background.

Personally, I enjoyed the books and the film and had no difficulties accepting the film as consistent with the laws of robotics as used by Asimov.
