Gary Price is in Wikipedia.
Someone sent me this entry about Gary Price as a trick to get me to play with Wikipedia. I had to correct some misleading information about my colleague whom I admire greatly. As a librarian and as someone who has a lot of respect for Gary, I want to help prevent false information about him from circulating on the Internet. Of course, by tomorrow or even five minutes from now, my edits will have vanished, but I at least tried.
Addendum: Liz points to this entry.

It’s been more than five minutes… also, Google is slow to add new articles to its spider-lists, but
quick to catch updates to articles.
(you have something against searchenginewatch?)
Someone commented that he thought the entry for G.P. was left a stub as ‘bait’ for the anti-self-
promotion sharks that circle about new Wikipedia
articles, but it was just for lack of better information.

Or just bait for others. (: In which case it was bizarrely unsuccessful… the article still says nothing about a great man.

I have nothing against Search Engine Watch. It’s a great site. What makes you think I have something against Search Engine Watch?
The way the Wikipedia entry was worded, someone could have thought Gary was dropping all of his other activities to work on Search Engine Watch, which isn’t the case. I reworded it to make it clearer that he’s contributing to that site as well as doing all the other amazingly wonderful things he does.
I don’t want an editing war.
If I knew more about Gary and what he wants known publicly, I could add more. One reason why I asked offblog what other things could be useful for the entry is to get some idea of what the editor/creator is looking for.
Also, a server error prevented me from getting to a prime source of information about Gary.

I think j was right – it was bait to get j to visit and it succeeded a little:)
Edit wars at Wikipedia are over-hyped. They mostly happen in a few high profile areas or when a few particularly unpleasant contributors are involved. The community is gradually getting better at dealing with those cases.
