Summer Reading

National Public Radio’s Weekend Edition Saturday covered summer reading from mandatory school assignments to children who love to read. Several avid readers mentioned not being able to put good books down. I hoped to have more time to read this summer. Certain activities slow down in the summer, but unfortunately, there was no rest for my weary self this season. I couldn’t even find the time to read more than twenty pages of the August book for the mystery book group I’m in. The next book, Walter Moseley’s A Little Yellow Dog, has been waiting in a corner for weeks. (Good thing it’s not a real dog.)

Moseley is an author I’ve been meaning to read for a while. When I learned we’d be reading one of his books for September, I got excited. Perhaps Saturday’s WESat segment inspired me. I realized I had some spare time while eating dinner yesterday and reading’s a good activity while eating, so I started the book. I read more than half of it yesterday, most while also watching the Olympics. At the rate I’m reading it, I’ll finish it well before the meeting: a first for me.
