Google News Alerts New Format

I use several Google News Alerts to help me in my continual search for news items. They recently changed their format so now instead of seeing the URL for the item, the headline shows up as being linked and the URL is invisible. I don’t know if different e-mail clients display the alerts differently, but that’s how mine does it now.

I really miss seeing the article URL for a number of reasons. I like to know where I’m going when I click a link. Sure, the alerts say the source of the article, but there was just something comforting to me about clicking a specific Web address. Some of the items in the alerts are things I share with clients. Because different people’s e-mail programs handle links differently, I always include the URL when I’m pointing someone to something on the Web. If all else fails, they can copy it and paste it in their Web browser. Now, I have an extra step of going to the Web site and finding the URL before I can forward something along. We’ve tried doing that sort of thing before and some of our clients cannot successfully follow the links.
