A Day No Pigs Would Die

I finished A Day No Pigs Would Die a few days ago, one of the books I borrowed from my local library for Banned Books Week. Some people would definitely find the violence against animals disturbing and probably would not think it outweighs any of the merits of the book. A scene where a boar basically rapes a sow is one of the most descriptive passages in the book. If people aren’t used to animal-on-animal violence or animals acting out of their most basic instincts, it can be quite shocking. I imagine some parents would prefer their children read other coming-of-age stories instead of this one.

I wrote about the beginning of the book and a passage with cruelty to a dog and a weasel earlier.
