News Librarian Stops Blogging

I missed the book review that caused such a stir over on Journey of a Wannabe, which is too bad, but I’ve seen some of the resulting posts. Learning what to say in the blogosphere, how to react to angry commenters and flames, and when to delete posts is something we bloggers all go through. Some have it harder than others.

"Anyway, I’m stopping while I’m ahead (yes that’s my sarcasm talking). It actually has nothing to do with the book incident, but more conflict related with my job it turns out. I will delete the whole thing this weekend," ACortez types.

Now Blogger gives me a 404 instead of her blog. Well, Angelica, I hope you don’t entirely give up on blogging. You’ll have to let us know through some other means how your job search works out.

Maybe it’s just my horribly melancholy mood, but knowing there might be one fewer news librarian in the blogosphere makes me sad. I find myself just staring at what might be her last blog post in my aggregator.

Addenda 10/23: Oh, gee. That’s the book and that’s the backstory. Now I’m really bummed that I missed the action. The blogosphere can be so small sometimes.

I fixed one of the reasons why I’ve been missing so much. I read a lot of sources via this blog’s aggregator. Something has been happening with a few of the feeds I subscribe to. Certain sources have been showing up with a lot of old posts repeatedly in the last few weeks. I finally decided to dump one of them today, something I’m not too happy about. Once I got rid of it, my aggregator suddenly had more than three feeds in it. I’ve probably been missing a lot of great stuff because of capacity problems with my aggregator. Maybe it’s time I investigate a different solution.

I noticed 54 other people subscribe to Journey of a Wannabe via Manila when I unsubscribed from her feed a few minutes ago. I received offblog confirmation that Angelica did indeed delete the blog. Sadly, the list of news librarian blogs at NewsliBlog is shorter now. Angelica, we’re looking for contributors over there … if you still feel like blogging …

I went to check out Angelica’s blog tonight as well and got the 404. I do hope she will keep me posted about her job search as well. It’s been nice being able to follow the musings of a fellow wannabe.

Thanks Jessica and Amy! It really was out of fear on my job that I took the whole thing down. Unfortunately, working at a news organization we all have to be careful since often people attribute the staffers opinions with the newspaper’s opinions. I didn’t think mine would be a big deal since I’m just a part time weenie, and also since nobody really read it! I had spoken with my boss about it, and she agreed that for the same reasons it should be fine. Then I got an email from the head honcho saying “staffers please don’t have blogs at all to avoid any contraversy.” THEN, I was linked and everyone came to my little blog, and man, what contraversy! So I felt the best thing for me to do was to take it down since I was really scared I would get in trouble at work! Plus, I was getting tired of all the spiteful comments, and gaining a reputation of being a “librarain trasher.”

Oh well, it’s all over now, I think I did the best thing as unfortunate as it may be. Thanks!
