Two Ways I Could Use a Wiki

Many of my friends read a lot of books and watch a lot of movies and like to talk about books and movies. I don’t have a lot of time to read and I don’t go to movies very often. I’ve missed some “essentials of American culture” because of those trends, apparently. They often recommnend books and movies to me, like just the other day. Most of the time, I forgot the titles within minutes. If I had wikis for either of these things, my friends could type what they think I should read or watch and maybe why I should read or watch them. It would be one way to keep track of those things. Then, I would also have a list, so I could note what I’ve read and watched to make it easier for me to remember what I have/haven’t seen and read. Other friends and people might be interested in browsing our lists, kind of like that music sharing site someone told me about where you can tap into what other people are listening to or like.

This kind of thing probably already exists somewhere and I just don’t know about it.

There’s a great site at listology.com that might provide a more elegant solution to that problem, albeit slightly different in functionality.

Ton Zylstra has discussed wikifying the blog: http://www.zylstra.org/blog/archives/001390.html Maybe something like that would be of interest? Personally, I think the people who talk about a PIM or KM toolbox are heading the right direction. IOW, give the users a suite or toolbox of aps and they will grow their own solution by picking an choosing formats off a menu. The starter toolbox would have e-mail, blogs, wikis, static web pages… all searchable.
