I frequently use the free Merriam-Webster dictionary. I’ll be interested in what the differences between the two versions are. I wonder if it offers a more complete definition of sheanuts.
I was going to post this resource anyway, having seen it yesterday, but today, I feel even more pressure to post something akin to library research tips. Librarians and similar information professionals are great to consult if you have to do research. As some people told me at a party last night (which surprised me), we’re incredibly useful because of our vast knowledge of sources and how to go about doing research. Libraries are not obsolete and contain many amazing resources. Spending some time in a library to do research might save someone hours of floudering around on the Internet looking for a good source. For some research tips, especially on using online sources, you might be interested in viewing one of my presentations on the topic. These slides come from some talks I gave to journalism classes about doing research. Many of the resources are specific to Massachusetts or Boston, but many libraries have similar items and databases. Check with your local library/libraries to learn more about the nifty materials and services they offer.
