Finally Claiming My Feed in Feedster

No Need to Click Here – I’m just claiming my feed at Feedster

Okay, now, I have to be honest and say that one of the reasons why I’ve been procrastinating doing this is because, well, my luck with certain computer-related things, like Feedster, has been pretty bad. I figured if I went through the feed claiming process, I’d run into some snags, some bugs, some problems, and I’d have to bother the always-ready-to-help Feedster staff. What should take a person with normal computer luck five minutes would turn into a multi-day ordeal. Now, mind you, this should reflect on my status as an improbability nexus, not on anything related to the quality of programming the folks at Feedster do. Most of the time, their tools work fine for other people.

The process went very well, actually. I don’t think I experienced any technical bugs. If I think about it long enough or have to go through the process again, I’ll probably think of some suggestions to make it easier for users. The three immediate and relatively minor things in my mind are making it easier to find the link to claim a feed (why isn’t it in the list under For Bloggers?), the links from the instructions should automatically open in new windows so someone doesns’t lose her place, and changing the text on the last page so it accurately reflects where people need to go in MyFeedster to edit their feed settings. Instead of “click on Options and then on Edit My Claimed Feeds,” it should indicate “Edited Claimed Feed(s)” is under Other. I didn’t go through the tutorial, so I can’t comment on how accurate it is. I found the process very easy.

I don’t really need another aggregator right now, so I’m not sure how much I’ll actually play with MyFeedster. Maybe I’ll do it by request, if someone wants my opinion about it. Or if someone offers me money, I might consider doing it.

Gosh, I hope I didn’t jinx their servers …

Francois just slimmed down our stopword list to model it on google’s. It’s under 50 terms now, which helps with a lot of the issues. Indexing single letters (”J”) is still on the table, however.

    Nifty! Thanks!
