Teaching Students to Evaluate Information on the Internet

Teaching people to evaluate information is critical. Librarians and teachers from Waukesha, Wisconsin, relate their efforts to help school students find and examine online sources.

The last few lines of the article sound too familiar. Insert your clients in the blanks:

"Librarians serve as information sifters for __________ when asked.

‘A lot of _________ come to us after they have been searching for a long time,’ said [a librarian]. ‘We can often help them save time.’

Librarians direct __________ by offering search tips and knowing reputable Web sites.

‘Sometimes it’s finding the right words or going to the right site for the right information,’ [an information professional] said. ‘We try to lead them to sites that are helpful for research projects.’"

The article includes some great tips from the Waukesha Public Library to evaluate information. I could not find a corresponding link on their Web site.
