Harvard Law School Dean Elena Kagan thanked the staff of the Berkman Center for Internet & Society for their work organizing the conference, especially John Palfrey and Wendy Koslow. She called the center one of Harvard Law School’s “crown jewels” and emphasized the importance of the work the center does.

Jesse Climenko Professor of Law Professor Charles Ogletree mentioned how the Internet shaped US presidential candidate Howard Dean. He talked a bit about South Africa, the importance of democracy, and how people value the right to vote. He shared an important video illustrating the challenges of electronic voting and freedom of choice.
