Season’s Readings
I want it on the record that I, who have a reputation for never reading anything, spent a lot of time reading yesterday. My penpal, who totally rocks, is a big comic book fan. He thrust the first installment of The Authority into my hands and said something like “Take a look at this.” When I was halfway through, he interrupted to tell me, “Here’s the second volume.” Someone else suggested I read The Sandman: Endless Nights and handed me a signed copy with an amazing doodle of Dream on an endpaper. I have to add that book to my Sandman collection. (RTE: I’m sure you’ve already read it, maybe twice, but if you haven’t, you need to. I ate it up totally and have been wanting more ever since.) I’m still pondering many of the tales. Amazing work.
Before I finished that, the third Authority was next to me on the floor. My penpal and I agree that the first two Authorities are better than the third. He has the fourth and fifth, but I didn’t really have time to read them unless I gave up what little sleep I got. The story lines remind me of the work CJ is doing, for some strange reason: superheroes running around protecting the world from terrorism, deposing bad dictators, and ridding Earth of political evil, including ineffectual U.S. presidents. If only it was that easy …
Books with few words, lots of pictures, and very deep content. = )
It’s too bad I was too busy reading all of these wonderful books to talk to my penpal. I’ll have to write to him. ha ha ha
