Congratulations to the 2005 News Division Award Winners!
Linda Henderson of The Providence Journal announced the 2005 Special Libraries Association News Division award winers today. They will be honored at the awards banquet during the SLA 2005 Annual Conference.
Congratulations to Richard Geiger of the San Fracisco Chronicle, Ron Larson of Capital Newspapers, Alice Pepper of the Detroit Free Press, and Kathleen Hansen of the University of Minnesota School of Journalism!
I gushed a little bit about them on NewsliBlog. Here, I can speak a bit more freely.
Ron is a fabulous mentor. I highly recommend that anyone get a mentor like him. more nice things to boost Ron’s ego
Faces and names were a big blur after my first conference, but I remembered Alice. It might have been the pepper earrings, but it was probably her easy-going manner and wit.
Having been someone who’s tried to write scholarly papers for class assignments about our profession, I’ve noticed an incredible lack of material. I’m so glad the News Division has instituted an award honoring someone who makes scholarly contributions to the field. I think it’s incredibly important to encourage that kind of work. I read many of Kathleen Hansen’s articles and frequently cited them. I think she’s an excellent author to receive the inaugural award.
