Whiteboard = Wiki
Seeing Steven’s thoughts about a personal wiki made me smile. I have a whiteboard in my office that sat idle for the first few months of my occupation. When I began indexing photos and was working on a hierarchy, I would sometimes put a term on the board, then draw relationships between it and other terms. Sometimes, I would leave the constructions up for a few days while I brainstormed. Since I don’t work with photos anymore, the purpose of the board has changed to the more mundane job of holding to do lists, but I still use it some times to brainstorm. I like working on blank surfaces, blank pieces of paper, scratchpads.
I think I would do well with a personal wiki.
On another note, and this statement will please and excite a few of my readers, we’re in a strategic planning phase for one of the Web sites I work on. As well as blogs and feeds, I suggested adding some wiki software to the mix, including something that can be password-protected for less public uses. We’ll see what happens with that suggestion.
Addendum: Mike Walsh adds to the discussion with some thoughts about wikis and Post-it notes, his preferred method of project planning.
