Since you link to Jenny’s post without comment, may I assume you fully agree with her 1,500-word diatribe about what she believes I said in a 500-word note?

I’m really sorry if that’s true.

I would urge you to reread the underlying note in its entirety, in context. (I will note that I did misunderstand one proposed use of RSS in library systems, which I’ll probably clarify as a follow-up. The paragraph beginning “Interesting stuff” was a mistake based on misunderstanding.]

I will not set down my actual thoughts about Levine’s essay–after all, she’s an a-lister (in the library field) with a much larger audience than I have, and most of that audience will simply accept her word as to the situation. As you apparently did?

    Hello Walt,

I point to a lot of things without comment. That doesn’t necessarily mean I agree with them or anything. It just means I didn’t type anything about it.

In this particular case, I didn’t have much time to blog. I saw the entry in my aggregator, skimmed the first few paragraphs, realized a few of my readers might be interested, and pointed to it without adding anything. I did that for a few entries that night.

It is my intention to go back to read what she wrote, but my schedule hasn’t allowed me to do that yet and I don’t think I’ll have the time to do that any time soon.

It’s a good question about content on this weblog. I point to things all the time I don’t necessarily agree with. I encourage the scratchpad’s readers not to assume anything about what I’m including or about my own comments or thoughts on the issues.

Point well taken. Your link-only posts are part of the diversity of blogging, and I respect that.

I would only ask that people actually read the 500+ words that I wrote in addition to the 1500+ words that Jenny assaulted me with (and the 800+ words that Karen Schneider has added to the pyre), since I regard both commentaries as unfair.
