Feedster: Should We let Users Remove Blogspot Results from their Searches?
Corrected per Scott’s comment below: I remember hearing or reading someone claiming they’ve stopped using search results from a certain search engine because the results they get are mostly useless spam. Scott Johnson at Feedster reports they’re considering removing Blogspot blogs from the search results because of the amount of spam blog posts coming from that blog platform. Many Feedster users have complained about it. Scott explains that the folks at Blogger know about the problem and know some things they can do to remedy the situation on their end, but the Feedster folks don’t want to wait for them to implement something. Scott’s looking for feedback about the issue. If you have something to say, comment on his weblog or blog it and make sure he knows about it.
Their new Search Tips feature can help exclude or include results from certain sources.

Hi Jessica,
Actually we’ve already implemented the feature to let people take blogspot out of search results. The question at hand is whether or not we should make that a default.

Thanks, Scott. I changed the wording of the blog post accordingly.

Hmmm, this would kill all the Wikinews RSS results in Feedster as the blog that generates the feed is on Blogspot

Wouldn’t it be great if the wikis serving Wikinews and other Wikimedia sites had their own feed capability? Then this wouldn’t be a problem, theoretically … = )
