Has anyone else noticed the orange RSS beta link in Factiva?

The help documentation for Factiva’s new RSS beta feature reads:

"We’re pleased to announce that in response to requests from many key customers, an RSS Beta is available to all Factiva.com subscribers. This Beta allows users of Factiva.com to subscribe to Editor’s Choice as channels within their own RSS reader of choice."

In my version of Factiva, it just teases me with link. I don’t actually have permission to use the feature.

I wonder how much longer it will be before the commercial databases will offer feeds as a search alert.

The above link might be restricted to people who can access Factiva via Harvard’s Libraries. Information about the RSS beta is in the What’s New in Factiva.com? for March 21, 2005. I think it is document number 4305. When I tried searching for RSS from their help screen, I received no results. Perhaps you’ll have better luck when you search for it.

Addendum: Steven Cohen mentions being stymied by Factiva’s orange RSS link, too.

I have indeed noticed the RSS beta in Factiva. If you go to the main search screen in Factiva, you can’t miss the new “RSS beta” icon in the upper right corner of the screen. If you click it, you get a page with a list of industry feeds that you can add to your reader. Clicking on posts that come up in your reader launches Factiva and takes you straight to the article featured in the post. Here’s a page from the Factiva site that has info on this service: http://fce.factiva.com/rss/marketing.htm

Disclosure – I am the Factiva Product Manager responsible for the RSS Beta exercise, and I’m sorry you’re having trouble accessing the beta. We decided to make this an ‘open beta’ for all Factiva.com users, in order to get as much feedback as we could on the usage and usefulness of RSS readers within our customer base. There are a few authentication scenarios that don’t work, although we did try to limit them. Perhaps you can email me with a description of your difficulty and I can get someone to address it. Authentication in RSS will continue to be a tricky issue for those of us who have a subscription model for revenue, but we are looking at further steps to try and get round this and give our users even more utility from their Factiva.com subscriptions.
