Sources for LIS Jobs

beSpacific points to this free Wall Street Journal Career Journal piece on sources for finding library and information science jobs.

The timing of this column made me chuckle because I talked two of my colleagues into applying for newly posted library jobs and I was just talking to a soon-to-be LIS grad and someone who’s been unemployed far too long about the state of the job market. It seems to be improving, but it’s still pretty bad. One of the secrets to getting a job is to use many different sources. Another secret is networking.

Oh, well, I guess those aren’t secrets anymore.

Addendum 4/14: Oh, yeah, duh. Some sources for news librarian jobs are the Special Libraries Association News Division’s jobs and internships page (pulled out of the frame) and Newslib. Many news organizations, especially smaller ones, don’t know about the SLA News Division and, therefore, don’t post their jobs in these places.
