My inner Buddha tells me not to fret; EVERYTHING is, by nature, annica (impermanent). We cannot change that. Even words and works etched in stone degrade (hello, Ozymandius).
My inner librarian tells me it must be preserved for….for…..forever.
But how long is forever? Much longer than it will take all these storage mediums to degrade analogically.
An interesting question would be how long will the item/data maintain relevance making it DESERVING of preservation.

Great thoughts, Alan!
“How long does something deserve to be preserved?” I’m going to chew on that for a while.
I like the lesson Ozymandius teaches us.
