Someone noticed the speed at which Wikipedia moves …
I myself was thrilled to find an article about it on Wikinews within minutes of learning the decision.

As I can’t stop telling anyone who will listen, Wikinews beat Reuters, BBC News Online, AP and Wikipedia itself to both the news of a new Pope, and then later, to announcing who he is
. The only organization faster than us that I’m aware of is CNN. Of course, we’re only talking a matter of minutes, but it demonstrates our speed and 24 hour coverage. (We announced the death of the previous Pope less than 120s after the Vatican did, too.) We are now well geared up to fast coverage with a special area of the site for preparing stories in advance, and we’re getting quite experienced at pushing them out the door fast. BTW there was a dramatic surge in traffic to the Wikimedia servers yesterday to over 2,100 hits a second – have a look at http://wikimedia.org/stats/live/org.wikimedia.all.squid.requests-hits.html.

Rah rah!
Congrats on beating Wikipedia! I understand that’s difficult to do.
Did anyone from the media contact you Wikinewsies to find out how you got the information so quickly? ; )
