I’m getting this blogging thing.
No, really, I am.
(You guys are going to laugh at me.)
Just the way my life has been going lately, I’ve met a whole bunch of people. One of the guys I’ve been hanging around a bit lately gave me his blog URL. (I’m not sharing it because I want the vagueness. Who he is isn’t as important as my point.) I started flipping through the entries. I’ve gone back in his life about two years already (lucky for me he isn’t a prolific blogger) and now I know so much more about him as a person. And it’s not just the big stuff, but all the day-to-day kinds of things he writes about tell me a bit about him as a person, his personality, his interests–things he probably wouldn’t tell me in person because they’re relatively minor and happened two years ago.
I also learned a bit about blogging style. He writes a lot like I do: mostly about himself without much mention of other people. I’ve been wondering if my exclusion of other people is really odd, but I’m thinking it isn’t so unusual. Many of the bloggers I know freely talk about their families, friends, etc., and I try not to. I think of it as protecting their privacy and my privacy in some ways. Some people think it’s weird. Others are very appreciative of being included but not named in this space. I have sort of my own rules for mentioning people that one day I will share with you.
