Recognition for Hard Work

Text: Boston SLA hereby confers upon Jessica Baumgart its 2005 Chapter Achievement Award as one whose outstanding performance in a committee assignment has contributed to this year’s success

Hope Tillman, Boston Chapter President

The Special Libraries Association Boston Chapter gave me the 2005 Chapter Achievement Award on Wednesday, May 25, 2005. They also honored Margaret Howe-Soper, most recently of Harvard Business School’s Baker Library, and John Cronin, who just retired from the Boston Herald, two of my heroes. None of us were allowed to speak, so I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Tony Stankus, chair of the awards committee, for lobbying so hard for me to be selected as an award winner, and his committee members Kathy McCabe–another amazing information professional–and Kami Bedard. It’s a little odd to have such high calibre colleagues telling me I deserve an award when I’ve only been around for a short time and have done nothing compared to what they’ve accomplished.

I also should thank all the people with whom I’ve served on committees. They’ve made being a chair or co-chair much, much easier and many have really inspired me. It’s easy to be involved and want to be involved when I’m surrounded by wonderful people.

Let me say one big global “Thank you!” here to all the congrats messages. If my wrists were better, I could respond individually.

Congratulations! I’m certain a platinum-covered certificate with a golden figuring mounted to a brand new Ferrari would also have been well-earned.
