What Should I Teach about Blogging?
I’ve been asking some people what I should teach during the blog course on Sunday. At last night’s blog meeting, I got some terrific and surprising suggestions. I expected people to give technical suggestions, like "show them how to do a blog post," but instead, I received more non-technical suggestions:
- how to cite
- how to learn more about blogs
- blogs as knowledge management tools
- design of weblogs, how to make info easy to find
- developing voice, tone
- flaming
- figuring out who the readers are
Anyone have more suggestions, technical or non-technical? I already have some ideas about what I should cover, but I definitely welcome input because I’m sure some of you will mention things I wouldn’t have considered.
Usually, I’ve asked this question long before ramping up to give a presentation. What can I say: I’m a little behind schedule.

As I like to say: “It’s not flaming! It’s a blog entry that does 3d6 fire damage!”

Maybe I should pack my dice …

The order of your last two topics is wrong. You should figure out who the readers are /before/ you flame them.
(Oh… Maybe you meant “figuring out who the flamers are.”)
More seriously… In case they’re still of any use, my notes on writing and pix, which I did for “our” MIT class, remain online linked to the left column of my blog. Headings are “Weblog writing tips” and “Weblog picture tips.”

True, true about flaming readers after knowing who they are. ; ) Your weblog is on the list I’m showing the class, so they’ll probably find your writing tips and maybe find them useful as well. hee hee hee
