The article that ate my job this spring

I’m so glad to have this project behind me. It never would have been finished without Max’ assistance. I asked for her name to be added to the byline because I believe firmly in sharing credit. Sifting and winnowing a list of about 300 items into what fits on a spread is actually more difficult than it would seem to be. I think this year is the third I’ve gotten byline credit for working on that article.

I’ve got to figure out how to do it better so it doesn’t consume my work life between March and June. I have a feeling they’ll ask me to do it again next year. I’d love to use a wiki to do it because of the ability to get lots of feedback and contributions from other people, though if asking others to plunk things into a very simple database stymies some of them, I can’t imagine switching to a wiki will bring roaring success. Right now, we’re tracking and storing items of note in a FileMaker database. We use the content for other things throughout the year, like lists of current research or changes in governance.
