The Blogging Course, SLA, and Bad Wrists

I know everyone is anxious to learn about what happened in the blogging course and my time at the Special Libraries Association Annual Conference. I do plan to blog them, but I really need to let my wrists heal first. Your patience is appreciated.

I bought a copy of ViaVoice, voice recognition software for Macs. I’m not sure when I’ll have a chance to install it and get it working, but perhaps within the next week.

Addendum 6/17: Before buying the voice recognition software from a store, I looked online to try to find it cheaper. I didn’t. I needed to purchase some other software, which I knew I could get online cheaper. When I was searching for it, I happened to find the voice recognition software cheaper through Amazon. I could save $20 and get free shipping if I chose the slowest shipping method. I was able to get an additional $30 off with another discount. And I followed the link from a local National Public Radio affiliate so they could get some money, too.

I returned the software to the store last night. I found the conversation with the clerk humorous:

“Is the software defective? Oh, the package is still sealed.”
“Right. I didn’t open it.”
“Did you like using it?”
“I didn’t use it.”
“Oh. Ok.”

Even though Amazon estimated I would receive the software between June 24 and 27 when I ordered it on Wednesday, it arrived today. Since I’d be evaluating software I should use in the office, I think setting it up on work time is legitimate. Right?

I guess if I start using voice recognition software, not only may I not be able to listen to the radio anymore, but I probably shouldn’t sing to it.
