The VR software wants to contradance.
I say “Hey” and it prints 8.
Wait … I think I heard a chuckle …
Learning how to use the voice recognition software, ViaVoice, is quite a challenge. I’m getting better at it, but it’s still slow going. Of course, I had to teach it a whole bunch of geeky words like blog, podcast, MIT, Webmaster, weblog, and, oh, yeah, it hasn’t quite gotten did seek allocate take geek yet. It’s trainable, which is good. It is definitely a test of patience, though. It takes two to ten seconds for what I say to appear on the screen. It stops printing when it gets stuck, so I often watch it print the words to make sure it’s following along ok. I can type so much faster than it can. My productivity has dropped significantly.
I find that right now, I’m using the software to write the bulk of a sentence, then going back to edit it by hand. I don’t know how I could use the software if I had no use of my hands.
I need to teach it how to do HTML, which is going to be a fun adventure. I’m trying to get used to it first before trying to do anything major with it.
I’m just impressed that I actually remember to turn the mic off before I start singing to the radio.
