This sounds like my Mac’s problem
Gosh, darn it, maybe I do need an LJ identity just so I can tell this person my laptop did this to me just before the blog course I taught a few weeks ago and what worked to solve the problem.
Some friends restored it by hooking it up via a firewire cable to another machine and booting it in target mode. They then were able to look at it and see that the data was fine, but some problem prevented it from booting. They moved most of my data to another machine, then wiped the hard drive. We reinstalled the OS and dumped the data back on. The machine runs fine. The regular kernel panics are even back.
