Wikipedia Meetup Notes, 9/26

So, it looks like another gathering I meant to blog, but didn’t, is the Wikipedia meeting that happened on Monday, September 26. Wikimedia founder and Berkman Fellow Jimmy Wales is in town this week for a conference at MIT and was rumored to plan to make an appearance at the meeting. He didn’t, but we had a good turnout of members and interested people. When we all sat down, I realized the folks affiliated with the blog group sat on one side of the table and everyone else was on the other.

The main point of business is strategizing to bring next year’s Wikimania to the Boston area. We need inexpensive conference space for about 1,000 people, including housing.

Our next gathering, with or without Jimmy, will be on the tenth and might involve diplomacy.

  1. James Day Says:

Boston is severely disadvantaged. It sits within the US, a place which today requires treating many foreign visitors as newly arrested persons, complete with fingerprinting and mugshots. Strongly contraindicated.
