Search Engines and Blogs
Learn more about how search engines index blogs from Amanda Watlington at Thursday’s blog meeting. (Details linked above.) Amanda is incredibly knowledgeable when it comes to things like marketing, positioning Web sites for better search engine rankings, and blogging. With Bill Ives of Portals and KM, she coauthored Business Blogs: A Practical Guide.
The blog group is making an effort to bring many speakers into the meetings. If you’re interested in learning more about whom we’re inviting, I encourage you to visit the Thursday Meetings at Berkman Blog. In this space, I’ll only post occasional news about guest speakers of particular relevance to the scratchpad’s topics and readers. The next one of note is scheduled for November 3 when we’ll have a discussion about what archives are doing or would like to do with weblogs.
Addendum 10/6: I took live notes for Amanda’s talk on the Thursday Meetings at Berkman Blog.
One of the cool things she’s talking about is tools available to help you select keywords for Web sites and weblogs, like Overture’s Keyword Selector Tool. Type in some keywords and you’ll see a list with numbers on the left and keywords on the right indicating the number of times someone searched using those words. The list for ‘librarian’ cracked me up. ‘News librarian’ and ‘news librarianship’ returned nothing. Google has a similar tool. Amanda also demoed NicheBot.
