Why Should Employees Blog? (.pdf)

Bill Ives writes about this paper from Edelman and Intelliseek examining the benefits of employee weblogs. He summarizes from the introduction:

"An Edelman study found that people are more three times more like to trust the average person than the big shot at the top of the organization and a McKinsey study found that 67% of consumer purchases are based on word-of-mouth."

Why couldn’t library weblogs increase the trust people feel toward their local library or librarian? If library users/advocates blog about the benefits they get from the library, why wouldn’t other people seek those same benefits from the library?
