Forever … by Judy Blume

In the midst of lots of busyness, I shirked responsibility and got lost in two books. I finally read Forever … by Judy Blume, one of the books I borrowed for Banned Books Week. I can’t remember the last time I read a book cover to cover in one sitting. It took me about two hours to plow through this story of teenage romance.

The sex scenes and presentation of teenage sex would definitely cause some people to object to this book.

I was amazed to note the 1957 copyright on the edition I read because the content seems rather timeless. The issues are the same as teenagers today probably face and, as far as I can tell, the story is written in a generic manner that doesn’t place it in a specific time.

The other book is the second volume of Queen and Country on loan from my penpal. He was right about me liking it. I’m already about halfway through the third issue. = ) Thanks, man!

Forever was written in 1975. It was brand new when I was a teenager. Although I quite clearly remember it coming out then, just to be certain I did check my facts and my source is Judy Blume’s website. http://www.judyblume.com/chrono_list.html and http://judyblume.com/forever.html. I just came across the book this weekend while clearing out my family home.

That’s so weird. I wonder why the copyright date in the volume I had was 1957. I remember checking it several times in shock because I thought the book was much newer.
