Wikipedia Strives to be Neutral; Its Contributors Aren’t Always

This Globe and Mail article linked above describes a situation where someone supposedly from one airline company wrote some bad things about a competitor in Wikipedia. As soon as Wikipedians noticed what happened, they removed the edit.

You post content; they get revenue: These icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages.

    Of course, the wikipedians also do things like delete notes about RMS’ growing-plants-phobia, leaving snotty comments that it’s defacement. No, it’s fact. It’s just fact that doesn’t particularly make him look good.

    (Eric Burns at websnark.com notes the problems of folks editing for ’significance’ in fields that they don’t actually know much about - in his case, webcomics.)

    Another benefit of a community of readers and editors is that horrible grammatical errors can get smoothed out quicker.
