Talk of the Nation on Wikipedia
Amy points out that Wednesday’s Talk of the Nation featured three people discussing Wikipedia, including Jimmy Wales, Wikimedia founder and Berkman Fellow.
Maybe I can grab some time to listen to it.
See, here’s another reason why podcasts are or making downloadable audio files available is so powerful. For people like me who are on dial-up, I don’t want to sit on my computer to listen to an hour long show. I’d much rather download it and listen to it without being online. I’d snag Talk of the Nation and listen to it later tonight, if I could.
Addendum 11/4: I listened to this program yesterday. It’s really great. If any of you think Jimbo is operating under the belief that Wikipedia is the perfect encyclopedia, it might surprise you to learn that he doesn’t. He talks openly about its weaknesses as well as its strengths.
Some topics:
He and a professor talk about whether it’s appropriate to cite in an academic paper.
Is writing an encyclopedia by committee a good thing or a bad thing?
Is the quality of content better when only a few experts edit pages or when many people, including those not very familiar with the topic, work on it?
