Wikimania Planning

In the interest of disclosure, I’ll confess that I’m involved in the planning for Wikimania, which will be held in Boston this coming summer. Even if you aren’t located near Boston, you can help with the planning efforts. There are meetings every few weeks on IRC (Internet Relay Chat) at freenode.net where the international community gathers to discuss planning.

The next one might be Saturday, December 3, at 22:00 UTC, which translates to 5 pm EST.

It’s going to be an international conference with lots of sessions about wikis and such. We’re trying to figure out a date–perhaps the second weekend in July or the first weekend in August. Conference registration fees will not be as bad as the cost for some conferences. If you’re at all interested in wikis or Wikimedia Foundation projects, keep this on your radar screen.

We need lots of things like:

  • People to contribute and present papers (a call will go out in the next two months)
  • Sponsors
  • Help with international travel
  • Planning sessions
  • Media coverage and outreach
  • Outreach to different groups around the globe
  • Competent program planners
You post content; they get revenue:
